White Sox’s eight-game losing streak motivates Chase Meidroth’s promotion to MLB

It only took 10 games for the Chicago White Sox to return to old habits, but unlike last year, help is on the way. After their 6-1 loss to the Guardians closed out a three-game sweep in Cleveland, word began to trickle out that infielder Chase Meidroth will make his MLB debut this weekend against the Red Sox.

While the Sox have been in a tailspin, fueled by poor offensive production and rookie mistakes, for their last eight games, Meidroth has been thriving with the Charlotte Knights. He has a .267 batting average and a towering .600 slugging percentage in Triple-A, accompanied by three home runs, four RBIs, and a pair of stolen bases. His patience at the plate hasn’t disappointed, either, as he has drawn eight walks in nine games.

It’s only fitting that Meidroth will make his first MLB appearance against his former team this weekend. Drafted by the Red Sox in the fourth round in 2022, Meidroth was characterized by his bat-on-ball abilities and ability to elicit ball four from pitchers. He accelerated through Boston’s four minor league levels quickly, showing hardly any differences in production as he advanced. It didn’t take long for the White Sox to see the same talent Boston saw, and they traded for him as part of the Garrett Crochet exchange.

Although it’s better late than never, it shouldn’t have taken 10 games, three of which resulted in devastating/embarrassing losses, for Meidroth to make the active roster.

Meidroth doesn’t need to overdo anything to contribute to this suffering team. His current batting average at Triple-A is better than that of every MLB-rostered player, and alone he has collected 30% of Chicago’s recorded runs this season. Though Meidroth doesn’t have the strongest arm, the White Sox can get by with his good enough defense for now, relying on his offense to put a pep in their lineup’s step.

Hopefully, this team won’t need to continue enduring eight-game losing streaks before general manager Chris Getz decides to dip into the pool of talent that’s sitting in Charlotte and waiting for the chance to play. Then again, Getz isn’t known to be proactive or forward-thinking.

Good luck, Meidroth, although White Sox fans know you don’t need it.
