Today in White Sox Baseball (April 4, 2025) — The Day is Lost, But Not By Much
With the full-season minors now all in full swing, our summaries here will be a bit more compressed.
It was Opening Night for Single- and Double-A ball, yet with just one “name” starter on the docket as the Friday Night ace: Noah Schultz, at Birmingham. And it didn’t go well.
Detroit Tigers 7, Chicago White Sox 4 A miserable second turn through the rotation continued, as Jonathan Cannon got hit for three earned early and the White Sox offense was in cold freeze.
Charlotte Knights 7, Norfolk Tides 6 The poor starting theme continues, as Nick Nastrini disappointed again, in his second start. However, Jared Shuster picked him up in relief and lived long enough in the contest to pick up the win — his third, and the Knights’ fifth. Andre Lipcius had two hits, including a grand slam.
Birmingham Barons 6, Knoxville Lookouts 4 Noah Schultz did fool some of the Lookouts, with a Double-A tied-for-fourth-best swing-and-miss count in the game, but those bats he didn’t miss hurt, as he racked up eight hits and four earned. However, his offense got him off of the hook with a five-run rally in the seventh, paced by triples from Jacob Gonzalez and Mario Camilletti (4-for-4). Gil Luna and Peyton Pallette wrapped up the win with authority.
Rome Emperors 6, Winston-Salem Dash 2 A bad game from Chicago’s weakest affiliate, as No. 1 starter Tanner McDougal got off to a poor start and the Dash offense is simply not enough to bail such starts out.
Hickory Crawdads 7, Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 4 This started out really well, with a Caden Connor two-run shot in the top of the first. And the game also featured the lone strong start of the night, as Mason Moore went a strong five for the CBs in his second pro game. But this time, it was the late pen of Carlton Perkins and Pierce George that handed the game to the Crawdads.
