Today in White Sox Baseball (April 25, 2025) — Another failed MLB effort, but a fun day on the farm!
The White Sox threw an opener at the A’s and made a strong run at their closer, but lost, again. At least the affiliates were triumphant in four of five games.
A’s 6, Chicago White Sox 5 Luis Robert Jr. had a particularly awful game, with three Ks, a crucial error on a routine single to center, and even a caught stealing. Tyler Gilbert was the opener and threw a clean frame; Sean Burke was the bulk starter, and has a rough 5 ⅓ innings. Brooks Baldwin made it interesting, touching Mason Miller for a homer, his first two runs allowed on the season. But the White Sox fell to 6-20, and sit on a 37-125 pace.
Charlotte Knights 4, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 1 (7 innings) It was a soggy, shortened game, but the Knights made their key hits stretch long enough, and into a win — including homers from Tim Elko and Zach DeLoach. Seriously, why are either of these guys still in Charlotte? Justin Dunn continued an up-and-down campaign on the up; if the White Sox could find room on their 40-man, the righty would be filling Martín Pérez’s rotation spot already.
Birmingham Barons 5, Rocket City Trash Pandas 2 (finish of Thursday’s game) This was all Noah Schultz, though he again was denied his first pro win. A monsoon interrupted Bham putting the final runs on the board for the win, and more scoring ensued after resumption on Friday. Peyton Pallette was BOSS in finishing this one up, over two days, with two innings to close out the game, and six Ks.
Birmingham Barons 5, Rocket City Trash Pandas 4 (Friday’s Game) This one was a back-and-forth affair, with Bham closing within one in the top of the eighth and cracking through for three, most significantly with Adam Hackenberg’s two-run double, in the ninth.
Rome Emperors 4, Winston-Salem Dash 1 The lone blemish on the farm came a day after a no-hitter for the Dash, so perhaps a letdown was expected. Unlike Thursday’s no-no rout, W-S couldn’t get a clutch hit to save their lives tonight.
Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 6, Myrtle Beach Pelicans 3 Kannapolis jumped out to a quick lead, but this game didn’t turn out to be in hand until the seventh inning. Get this: A couple of lumberers, Lyle Miller-Green and Ronny Hernandez, both tripled in this one.
