Today in White Sox Baseball (April 2, 2025) — Wait, We’re Still in First Place?
Minnesota Twins 6, Chicago White Sox 1
The first poor start of the 2025 season by a White Sox starting pitcher was due to arrive, and tonight Sean Burke authored that poor start — with no help from his pen. Let’s hope it’s not an ominous sign that on the first second turn, Burke floundered, because if No. 2-5 follow suit we are in for a long weekend.
Wait, actually, let’s not dump too badly on the pen, Burke surrendered two homers to a Twins team that started the season runs-challenged. Byron Buxton homered as the third batter of the game, and the hole got much deeper in the fourth, as Harrison Bader clubbed a three-run shot to apply some early ice to the game.
It was the Hyde offense, rather than the Jekylls who decided to rout opponents in the openers of the first two series of the season, that showed on Wednesday.
The White Sox remain tied for first place — yes, it’s a five-way tie for first, and last, in the AL Central — and travel to Detroit for a weekend home opener series against the Tigers.
Norfolk Tides 3, Charlotte Knights 1
It was bound to happen, a Knights loss, but one where the high-octane offense went quiet comes as a bit of a surprise. Four Tides wrung out the Charlotte offense, allowing just three hits. Chase Meidroth had a home run along with a single, providing 67% of the hitting; however Edgar Quero stole Meidroth’s on-base gig, going hitless but walking three times. Quero (.417) has overtaken Kyle Teel (0-for-4) for the team batting average lead, but Meidroth the Clubber has leapfrogged both catchers in OPS, now standing at 1.125.
