Today in White Sox Baseball — An Opening Day Win!

Shocking all, or certainly shocking anyone in Chicago who surely knew better, the White Sox crushed the Angels, 8-1, to kick of the 2025 season on a good note.

Sean Burke threw six scoreless innings, flying though every frame after a muddled first, to earn the win (wins mean “nothing,” right, but the rookie is now 3-0 in five games and just four starts in his major league career).

Austin Slater gave the White Sox ALMOST all they would need, with a leadoff home run in the second inning, runs augmented later in the frame by a bloop double from Miguel Vargas to score two. Later, win turned to rout courtesy of home runs by Andrew Benintendi and Lenyn Sosa.

(A footnote on Sosa, he became the 13th consecutive different second baseman to start on Opening Day for the White Sox, dating all the way back to Gordon Beckham in 2013. That is the longest streak in major league history, for ANY infield position.)
