5 overreactions MLB’s Opening Weekend
Welcome back, baseball! The season may have started ten days early in Tokyo, Japan, but it didn’t officially begin in the US until March 27. After each team has played at least three games, it’s naturally time to jump to conclusions and judge the remainder of every team’s season.
Here are five overreactions to every team’s Opening Weekend.
1. Aaron Judge will hit 60 home runs
Judge doesn’t need a torpedo bat to improve his swing. He is 10-for-10 with nine RBIs and three home runs in three games. Judge is on pace to hit well more than 60 dingers — how about 216? Undoubtedly, he takes the cake for the hottest start to this season.
Aaron Judge has hit 1,699 feet worth of homers in the last two days …

2. The White Sox will finish 30th offensively
This reaction may not be as severe as others. The White Sox have scored in only three times in 27 innings in the last four days. They are currently 23rd in the league in batting average and 20th in runs, but that’s only inflated from their 8-1 victory on Opening Day, and this weekend’s silent bats don’t bode well for their offense keeping up with the league average.
3. Philadelphia will set a strikeout record
Don’t let the scoreboard fool you, the Phillies didn’t have an optimal start to the season at the plate. While they outscored the Nationals 23-10 in the series, the lineup also racked up 30 strikeouts. The Twins hold the record for 1,654 season strikeouts in 2023, but at this rate, the Phillies might exceed that number.
4. The Cardinals will make a Wild Card run
Although they aren’t the biggest threat in the league, the Cardinals could sneak up on the Cubs and Brewers this year. Sonny Gray, Erick Fedde, and Andrew Pallante delivered 16 innings and only gave up five earned runs, and Nolan Arenado showed he still has plenty left in the tank with four hits, two RBIs, and a home run in their sweep over the Twins.

5. Atlanta might miss the playoffs
Projected by some preseason projections to have the second-most wins in 2025, Atlanta quickly fell to 0-4. The Braves bullpen is responsible for the first three losses, and they’ve failed to put a run on the board in their last two games. Without Ronald Acuña Jr., the Braves might dig themselves into a hole they can’t get out of.
