Today in White Sox Baseball (April 8, 2025) — Another major league giveaway day
The White Sox wasted a brilliant start from Shane Smith — hitless two outs into the sixth inning — when the abuser closer gave away the game in the ninth. Well, at least Birmingham won today.
Cleveland Guardians 1, Chicago White Sox 0
I mean
The White Sox have lost six straight and are 2-8. That’s a 32-130 pace for the season.
Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 3, Charlotte Knights 0 Charlotte pitched well enough, but the hitting was punchless, with seven total and five coming from Tim Elko (two singles) and Joshua Palacios (3-for-4, double). Colson Montgomery again played third base, and went 0-for-3 with a walk and a K, and stands 3-for-34 with 19 Ks. The Knights fall to 6-4.
Birmingham Barons 6, Chattanooga Lookouts 3 Libertyville’s Riley Gowens wants to pitching in Charlotte. Hell, he wants to pitch in Chicago. His debut game of 2025 was BUFF: five innings, three hits, one earned run, one walk, NINE strikeouts. Birmingham stands at 2-1.
Fayetteville Grasshoppers 4, Winston-Salem Dash 3 Jake Bockenstedt’s win was dashed by a ninth-inning collapse from closer Madison Jeffrey, as Fayetteville turned a 3-2 frown upside-down with two tallies. With a combined 5-for-7, Bash Brothers Ryan Galanie and Caden Connor stayed hot. However the Dash got cooled off and dropped to 2-2.
Lynchburg Hillcats 4, Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 0 And an uglier game you will not find, as wheezing Kanny mustered more errors (three) than hits (two). Worse, the CBs whiffed 11 times and took just one free pass. This club is one hot inning from starting the season 0-4.
