2025 Sox Populi Top Prospect countdown: Nos. 31-35
Our Sox Populi staff combines their prospect lists each offseason, coming up with the Top 100 players in the system. We’ll be summarizing and counting them up here, five at a time, leading up to the regular season.
35
Eric Adler
Right-Handed Reliever
Charlotte Knights
Baseball Cube Rating 68.50
The top closer candidate for the South Side not named Adisyn Coffey, Adler may yet lap the reliever who had a two-year head start in the org. Adler has the chops, and is getting enough White Sox attention (AFL time, Team USA experience) to know he’s tapped for something good to come.
34
Ronny Hernandez
Catcher
Kannapolis Cannon Ballers
Baseball Cube Rating 58.63
Simple WAR 1.2
Lost a bit in a surprisingly potent Kanny offense last year is this consistent producer. How Ronny advances as a catcher might be up for question, but the bat has played at every level. With taut backstopping in the high minors, there’s no reason to rush him in 2025.
33
Nick McLain
Right Fielder
Texas A&M (NCAA)
Baseball Cube Rating 77.00
Simple WAR 3.6
Forever, perhaps, tied to the outfielder taken one round later (Casey Saucke), McLain was the first college player chosen by the Sox in 2024, as well as the first outfielder. The guess here is both 2024 newbies will be playing side-by-side on the center-right side of the outfield on Dash Opening Day in April.
32
Javier Mogollón
Shortstop
ACL White Sox
Baseball Cube Rating 76.13
Simple WAR 2.4
The most intriguing prospect not named Rikuu Nishida may well go by the name of Mogdollón. While the ACL White Sox were pretty much awful, per norm, in every aspect of the game, this young shortstop mashed. In a sense, in 2024 he was what Ryan Burrowes was supposed to be just one level higher. Now, he has the chance to play beside Burrowes in Kannapolis, making up a middle infield that seems certain to disrupt the Carolina League.
31
Juan Carela
Right-Handed Starter
Birmingham Barons
Baseball Cube Rating 61.00
Simple WAR 3.2
As promising the starter as the White Sox have at any level, Carela’s immediate future and entire 2025 season was put on ice after March Tommy John surgery. Hopefully he can hit the ground running a year from now and see Charlotte some time in ’26.
