The Knights absolutely pulverized the Gwinnett Stripers, 9-1, taking their home opener and possibly ushering in a delightful new era of WINNING baseball in Charlotte.

Colson Montgomery, Tim Elko and Kyle Teel homered and the Charlotte staff combined for a two-hitter in the win. Chris Rodriguez started and went three hitless, Jared Shuster whiffed six in three innings but surrendered a homer, Adisyn Coffey was spotless in two innings, and Gus Varland allowed a bloop hit but escaped the ninth safely.

One intriguing storyline for the game were assignments for Charlotte’s two gilded catching prospects, as Edgar Quero go the first start behind the plate while Kyle Teel was the designated hitter. Presuming the two can’t-miss men alternate catching starts, will the off-day always be at DH? Teel has played some left field, either player presumably could see first base time … the more defensively flexibility they display the more likely this catching platoon reaches the majors and plays out with their bats in the lineup daily.
