WWE NXT: The Place Where Former AEW Wrestlers Find Success
Ricky Saints will get a shot at Shawn Spears’ North American championship on next week’s episode of WWE NXT.
Both men spent years in All Elite Wrestling. Saints was known as Ricky Starks. He feuded with CM Punk and later won the tag team title with Big Bill.
In fact, almost everyone who has made the jump from AEW to WWE has succeeded.
Let’s take a look.
Ethan Page won the NXT championship last year. Page, who didn’t even win a belt in AEW, defeated Andre Chase last night.
Brian Pillman Jr. wasn’t successful in AEW, but he won the Heritage Cup in NXT under his new name, Lexis King. He retained the Cup with a countout win over Je’Von Evans.
Spears didn’t win a belt in AEW, either, but now he has the North American championship and leads a faction called The Culling.
Fallon Henley got her start on AEW’s YouTube shows as Tesha Price. She lost her challenge to Stephanie Vaquer last night for the North American title.
STEPHIE TWO BELTS
Vaquer wasn’t an AEW roster member, but her outstanding performance against Mercedes Mone at Forbidden Door earned her a WWE job.
She retained the NXT women’s championship in the opener against Jaida Parker. Not only does Vaquer hold two belts, but she retained them both in the same night.
Of course, the best examples of AEW stars jumping to WWE are Jade Cargill and Cody Rhodes.
Cargill won the WWE women’s tag team title with Bianca Belair, and Cody is wrapping up his first year as WWE champion.
OTHER BOUTS
Tyson Dupont & Tyriek Igwe defeated Hank Walker and Tank Ledger, who are on a losing streak.
Gigi Dolin & Tatum Paxley beat the Meta-Girls (Lash Legend & Jakara Jackson) to gear up for a shot at the TNA Knockouts tag team belts against Ash & Heather By Elegance.
Ash is longtime WWE wrestler Dana Brooke.
