WWE Hall of Fame Spotlight: Earthquake & Typhoon, The Natural Disasters

Earthquake and Typhoon went together like giant jars of peanut butter and jelly.

The super-heavyweight Natural Disasters tag team will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame next month during WrestleMania weekend.

Earthquake debuted as a “fan out of the crowd” who attacked The Ultimate Warrior during his feud with Dino Bravo.

After Hulk Hogan lost the WWF title to Warrior at WrestleMania VI, Quake attacked Hogan on the Brother Love Show.

While Hogan was injured, Tugboat rallied the fans to send cards and letters to the Hulkster. Hogan beat Quake by countout at SummerSlam 90.

THE TIDE TURNS

The Natural Disasters came together when Tugboat turned against The Bushwhackers during a six-man match against Earthquake & The Nasty Boys.

Tugboat changed his name to Typhoon and started teaming up with Earthquake.

The Disasters became an unstoppable team and challenged Ted DiBiase & Irwin R. Shyster (Money Inc.) for the WWF tag team belts at WrestleMania.

Money Inc. walked away from the fight and got counted out, but The Disasters caught them over the summer and won the championship.

The Disasters successfully defended the belts against The Beverly Brothers at SummerSlam 92 in London.

Money Inc. recaptured the belts from the Disasters later in 1992.

In 1993, Typhoon went to WCW and wrestled as The Shockmaster. Earthquake left the WWF but returned later in the decade as the masked Golga in The Oddities faction.

Fred “Typhoon” Ottman is still with us, but John “Earthquake” Tenta passed away in 2006.

The Disasters will be remembered as one of the most successful “huge guys” teams in wrestling history.
