WWE Elimination Chamber Flashback: Two Matches for WrestleMania Title Shots (2008)

Elimination Chamber is one of the biggest dates on the WWE calendar, and the next edition is set for March 1 in Toronto.

WWE realized the star-making power of the match and scheduled two Chamber matches for the No Way Out pay-per-view in February 2008.

Smackdown and ECW wrestlers competed in the first Chamber match of the evening. The two biggest stars, Batista and The Undertaker, started the match.

Big Daddy V came in and worked on both men, but Undertaker gave him a DDT on the Chamber’s steel floor and Batista scored the pin.

Another giant came to the ring in the form of The Great Khali. He went down to the Undertaker’s “Hell’s Gate” submission hold.

Finlay and MVP were the final two entries. Finlay pinned MVP after Undertaker chokeslammed MVP off the Chamber pod.

Taker chokeslammed Finlay for the pin, leaving him to face the other man who started the match, Batista.

Undertaker survived a Batista Bomb and won the match with a Tombstone piledriver.

He went on to defeat Edge at WrestleMania 24 to win the World title and improve his Mania record to 16-0.

RAW CHAMBER MATCH

Triple H and Shawn Michaels had won Chamber matches before, and they competed in the main event with fellow Raw wrestlers Chris Jericho, Umaga, Jeff Hardy, and John “Bradshaw” Layfield (JBL).

Jericho and Michaels started the match, followed by Umaga. JBL came in fourth, but Jericho pinned him after a Codebreaker.

Triple H and Jeff Hardy were the final two entrants, and everyone hit their finishers on Umaga before Jericho eliminated him.

Michaels blasted Jericho with the Sweet Chin Music superkick, and Hardy scored the pin.

Michaels was the next man eliminated after getting nailed with a Twist of Fate by Hardy and a Pedigree by HHH.

Triple H finally put Hardy away with a Pedigree on a steel chair to win the match and advance to WrestleMania.

WHAT ABOUT THE RUMBLE?

Wait a minute. Isn’t the Royal Rumble winner supposed to get a title shot at WrestleMania?

Yes, but John Cena asked for his shot one month early on this show (No Way Out 2008). In that match, WWE champion Randy Orton got disqualified for striking the referee.

Cena and Triple H faced Orton in a Triple Threat match for the WWE title at Mania. HHH hit Cena with the Pedigree, but Orton punted Triple H in the head and stole the pin on Cena.
