WWE Elimination Chamber Flashback: Tag Team and Intercontinental Titles on the Line (2015)

The Elimination Chamber pay-per-view took an interesting turn in 2015 when the Intercontinental and tag team titles were on the line.

Before then, the Chamber match would be for a World title or a shot at the big belt at WrestleMania.

That will be the case this Saturday, when the Chamber winners will earn shots at Cody Rhodes and Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania 41.

TAG TEAM MADNESS

The first two teams in the Chamber were The Prime Time Players (Titus O’Neil & Darren Young) and Los Matadores (Primo & Epico).

Cesaro & Tyson Kidd came in third, followed by the WWE tag team champions, The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods & Big E).

The last two teams to come out of the pods were The Ascension (Viktor & Konnor) and The Lucha Dragons (Sin Cara & Kalisto).

The Ascension wiped out both high-flying teams with their “Fall of Man” finisher, so the Dragons and Matadores were eliminated.

The Players knocked out the Ascension when Young hit his “Gut Check” move. Young also pinned Cesaro with a rollup.

The New Day retained the title when Kingston pinned O’Neil after his floating “Trouble in Paradise” kick.

INTERCONTINENTAL ACTION

The IC title was vacant due to Daniel Bryan suffering a concussion. Bryan had won the belt in a ladder match at WrestleMania 31.

Dolph Ziggler and King Wade Barrett were the first two participants. R-Truth and Mark Henry came out next, followed by Ryback.

Barrett was eliminated first after a Lie Detector elbow drop by Truth. Sheamus was the last to enter the match.

Ryback eliminated Truth, and then Sheamus knocked Henry and Ziggler out of the match with the Brogue Kick.

Ryback slowed Sheamus’s roll by hitting the Shell Shocked finisher to win the Intercontinental title.

WHAT ELSE HAPPENED?

Seth Rollins defended the WWE World title against Dean Ambrose (Jon Moxley) in the main event. They used to team up as The Shield along with Roman Reigns.

Ambrose seemed to win the title with the Dirty Deeds DDT, but the referee disqualified Rollins for using him as a human shield.

Kevin Owens, who held the NXT title at the time, scored an upset victory over US champion John Cena in a non-title match.
