WrestleMania 2 Flashback: Football Stars Invade the Ring (1986)

The first WrestleMania was such a big success that WrestleMania 2 was presented from New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles.

Each of the crowds watched four matches live and eight on the video screens.

Football players from the NFL joined the battle royale in Chicago, led by hometown favorite William “The Refrigerator” Perry.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK

After headlining the first WrestleMania, “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff opened the show by battling Magnificent Muraco to a double-countout.

Jake “The Snake” Roberts defeated former Canadian Football League player George Wells with the DDT.

Randy “Macho Man” Savage retained the Intercontinental championship with a win over George “The Animal” Steele.

Mr. T came back from his success at the first WrestleMania. He faced “Rowdy” Roddy Piper in a boxing match.

Piper got disqualified in Round 4 for shoving the referee and bodyslamming Mr. T.

WINDY CITY

In Chicago, Corporal Kirchner beat Nikolai Volkoff in a USA vs. USSR flag match.

The Fabulous Moolah pinned Velvet McIntyre in one minute to retain the WWF women’s title.

Andre the Giant won the 20-man battle royale, with included NFL stars like Harvey Martin, Bill Fralic, and Russ Francis.

Perry got eliminated by Big John Studd, but then Fridge pulled Studd out of the ring. Andre won by eliminating both members of The Hart Foundation.

Speaking of tag teams, The British Bulldogs won the WWF tag team title from Greg “The Hammer” Valentine & Brutus Beefcake.

CITY OF ANGELS

Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat defeated Hercules to kick off the Los Angeles portion of the show.

Adrian Adonis won a superheavyweight battle with Uncle Elmer.

In the best match of the night, Terry & Hoss Funk won a wild battle with Tito Santana & The Junkyard Dog.

Hulk Hogan retained the WWF championship in the main event. He beat King Kong Bundy in a steel cage match.

The Hulkster would face an even larger opponent at WrestleMania III.
