Vibes Are Immaculate with the Red Sox Big 3 This Spring Training

If you are a Red Sox fan, you have to thrilled with the way things in Spring Training are going. Alex Bregman already set the center stage with his debut, going 3-3 with a HR. Furthermore, Garrett Crochet delivered on what was a very anticipating debut for him on the mound. While the stable veterans have highlighted things so far, all eyes are on the younger players.

There are many battles going on in Spring Training. Given the injury to Kutter Crawford and a potential setback to Brayan Bello, the battle for the rotation spot is on. Quinn Priester has been tremendous. All these trickle down to the position players and the vibes are immaculate.

Everyone will be waiting to see what Vaughn Grissom, Ceddanne Rafaela, and David Hamilton to take the next steps. But all eyes are on the Big Three, who have all been tremendous in Spring Training. The best part, they’ve been playing at the same time and it’s created so much excitement for Red Sox fans. The future is now and it’s been a true treat watching them this Spring and here is why.

Breaking Down the Big Three

Marcelo Mayer

We are going to start with Marcelo Mayer, which was gift when he fell to the club at fourth overall. He is a player that has dealt with numerous injuries, but there is so much potential with this player. He has a bigger frame and brings an enormous amount of power to the plate. In their Spring Training game against the Tigers, Mayer flashed that power and off a stellar pitcher in Jack Flaherty.

Mayer had a phenomenal game and was a double shy of the cycle. His triple went for an eye opening 408 feet and had an exit velocity of 103 MPH. He made no mistake bashing that baseball and made a good job on crushing his home run. It’s actually truly remarkable seeing that type of production in Spring Training because Mayer has yet to play a single game at the Triple-A level, which would be the closest thing to major league talent.

Mayer is hitting .385 and with a 1.236 OPS. He is showing his raw power generating hard contact and has a home run and two extra base hits. There is still a likelihood where Mayer does begin the year in Worcester, but he has been a phenomenal story to follow this Spring.

Roman Anthony

The number one prospect in baseball has performed like it. His bat speed is ridiculous and his ability to be a weapon in the lineup is polarizing. Despite taking a pitch to the elbow, he has been great at the plate and has helped deliver the offense.

Anthony is hitting .333 while having an OPS of .917. He hasn’t left the yard yet, but he has been able to get on base and drive in runs. Anthony has settled in nicely this spring and has consistently shown throughout the minor leagues just how effective he can be at the plate. He is coming off a nice game, where he generated three walks in his at bats. That’s encouraging and awesome to see.

Kristian Campbell

The most polarizing of the big three and the one who’s made quite the climb in the shortest span is Kristian Campbell. He is an effective bat and brings a blend of raw power to the plate and ideally would be the perfect bat to have in this lineup. There is no denying what he has done at the plate to this point. He has put himself on the map and is precisely why he is a top ten prospect in the sport.

The question lies with his defense and what he can bring and give the team. He is in a healthy battle for the second base position, but also has seen time in left field. That’ll be the most intriguing thing about him is seeing what his defense will look like. But as a batter, no denying the capability of impacting the lineup.

Campbell was a monster in Double A and saw his stock rise. He hit .362 with a 1.045 OPS. He still transferred that production to Triple A, but the sample size is small.

It’s been a tough Spring Training at the plate. He has yet to get a hit and has struck out seven times. It’s nothing to panic about or anything like that, but it’ll be an adjustment period for Campbell.

A lot of stock is rising with this trio and it’ll be really exciting not just for the present but the future as well.

Present and Future Bright

It was not long ago that first baseman Triston Casas went out and said that the younger guys shouldn’t make the Opening Day roster. That’s not to say they don’t deserve it, but maybe that they need more time. Maybe that is true, but maybe it’s not. Regardless of where these three begin the 2025 season, the vibes are immaculate and the future is near.

Each player could legitimately see time in Worcester to further develop their games and hone in their craft. There is no need to rush them, but they are knocking on the door and quickly. Or one of them or all three could make the Opening Day roster. Or, we can get a curtain reveal and all three come up together during the year.

Either way, the future is bright for the Red Sox and so is the present and the Big Three are leading the way, giving the Orioles a challenge for the best young talent in the division.
