Two Years After Falling, Jalen Hurts Finally Tops Mountian

Two years ago, Jalen Hurts walked off the field in Glendale AZ after the Kansas City Chiefs completed a Super Bowl comeback to win their first of two straight.

Ever since then, Hurts had a picture of him walking off the field with Chiefs confetti pouring from the rafters as his phone background.

As he was looking at that picture every day, Hurts received widespread criticism from the media and others on whether he could be a Super Bowl-winning QB.

Nearly two years to the date later, Hurts was back preparing for another shot at Kansas City and the Lombardi.

“The goal is to win,” Hurts said during his pre-Super Bowl media availability. “I don’t need a screensaver to remind me of anything, but it’s there.”

Hurts didn’t need to look at his phone to remind him of the motivation he carried, all he had to do was look at the other sideline.

With all eyes on Patrick Mahomes and the Cheifs going for the first three-peat in NFL history, it was Hurts who stole the show.

If you had told most people that the Kansas City defense limited Saquon Barkley to 57 yards on 23 carries, they probably would have told you that we’d be talking about a three-peat.

However, Jalen Hurts isn’t like most people.

Hurts was an efficient 17-22 throwing for 221 yards and a pair of touchdowns while also being the Eagles leading rusher with 72 yards on 11 carries.

After the big win, Hurts didn’t lose sight of the road it took to finally get himself and the Eagles to the trophy.

“Things come right on time. The last time around, it wasn’t our time, it wasn’t my time,” Hurts said. “Sometimes, you have to accept that you have to wait your turn. …

As great as the performance was, it wasn’t enough to win. Going through those emotions and processing those things, that experience, lit a great flame in me and enhanced my desire to win.”

Now, Hurts has a new photo to use as an iPhone wallpaper and this time, it’s still him walking off the field with confetti falling from the rafters.

Only this time, he has the Lombardi Trophy in hand.
