The Kansas City Chiefs Deserved To Lose The Super Bowl!

The Super Bowl; it is the pinnacle for anyone who’s ever donned an NFL uniform. It’s the final game of the year, that’s “supposed” to be the culmination of everyone’s hard work since the season kicked off a mere five months ago. It’s “supposed” to be the marquee game on the calendar, where the two best teams in the league face off to see who gets to take home the Lombardi Trophy.

But last night, in the NFL’s highly-anticipated clash between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs, we DID NOT witness a game like that. We DID NOT witness the two best teams in the league go toe-to-toe for the championship. NO! We witnessed the best team in the league (the Eagles) absolutely DESTROY a Kansas City squad that road a wave of LUCK into the championship game.

It was a depressing moment in football history, as we saw a team that was supposed to be fighting for history poop the bed worse than a baby on ‘Taco Tuesday.’ But we shouldn’t be surprised by this. We shouldn’t be surprised that Patrick Mahomes and co. couldn’t get the job done. I mean…..they were one of the most unimpressive playoff teams in NFL history.

It’s true! This team was one of the most unimpressive playoff teams that I’ve ever seen in my entire life. I don’t care that they were the two-time defending champions. I don’t care that Patrick Mahomes is their quarterback. This team had no business playing in this game, based on what they showed the world throughout the regular season.

I mean just think about it; they are one of THREE TEAMS this season who failed to score over 30 points in a SINGLE regular season game. The other two; the New England Patriots (4-13) AND the Las Vegas Raiders (4-13). Three teams, with three VERY different records…..all with sub-par offenses who couldn’t surpass a rather achievable point total.

I don’t know about you……but that seems like a depressing feat for a Super Bowl contender to accomplish. (But that’s just me.)

Not only that; the Kansas City Chiefs basically RODE a wave of luck (and poor officiating) all the way to the playoffs. They did not beat anyone handily, like in previous years. Their most impressive win was against the Pittsburgh Steelers (19 points), who were in the middle of their own skid late in the year. But besides that…..you could EASILY say that the ‘Fighting Taylor Swifts’ were slipping by by the “skin of their teeth,” week after week.

SERIOUSLY; whether it was the blocked kick at the end of the Broncos game, or the fact that they had to literally SURVIVE in Carolina…..this team was a shell of it’s former self this year. This team SURVIVED, more than they thrived. With an average scoring margin of +2.7 (11th in the league), compared to +5.2 and +7.0 in 2023 and 2022(5th in the league both years); it’s safe to say that this team had some sort of “devil dark magic” on their side, that helped them get to the Super Bowl.

Simply put; this was not a trend that the ‘Fighting Taylor Swifts’ could sustain all of the way to a championship. It’s just not possible. Once the Eagles found their groove and made it to the dance…..they ended up turning into one of the biggest BUZZSAWS in league history.

Now in the end…..what’s my point? Am I just writing about Kansas City the day after their biggest loss, just so I can “kick them when they’re down?” Well…..yes and no. I WAS of the majority last night who wanted to see these pretenders get absolutely SMOKED by the BIRDS. I WAS of the majority last night who wanted to see the demise of Taylor Swift, and all of the stupidity that she’s brought to the sport of football.

But besides that, the point I’m trying to make is that we should’ve seen this coming. As a society, we should’ve looked at this game on the surface, instead of accounting for the possible ‘three-peat’ and the resumé of the current Chiefs roster. This team had such a SHAKY season, (mostly) against inferior talent compared to the Eagles…..and they were the favorites in this matchup? The sportsbooks gave them 1.5-points, before the ball was even kicked off?

I know that hindsight’s 20/20, and that I even fell victim to believing that Mahomes and co. could pull off a win. But looking back now at the season that was……I think it’s safe to say that I was stupid for not (responsibly) putting MORE MONEY on the BIRDS. It was written in the stars; Philly was going to bring home the title. We were just too blind to see it.

In the end though, as always…..what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
