Cleveland Browns 2025 Free Agency, Offensive Tackle
Cleveland is going to spend money on free agency in 2025, despite what national and local media report. Today I’ll start a series of articles on six positions Cleveland will need to address, whether it be as starters or backups, quarterback, offensive tackle, safety, tight end, center and offensive guard. Today, offensive tackle.
At one time the Browns offensive line was one of the best in the league. Now age and injuries has hit this unit hard. The current tackles on the roster are Jack Conklin, Dawand Jones, Roy Mbaeteka, Julian Pearl and Lorenzo Thompson. 2024 starting left tackle Jedrick Wills is a free agent and Jones and Conklin have battled injuries over the last two years. If the Browns decide to keep Conklin it will have to be on a restructured contract. As for Jones, I view him more as a swing tackle so a starting left tackle must be signed. The ideal situation would be to find a one-year veteran and then draft his replacement for 2026. I also expect Cleveland to sign a couple of veteran backups for both tackle positions.
Cornelius Lucas, Commanders. Lucas is 34 years old, played 40.2% snaps and has been in the league ten years. His cap hit for 2024 was $2.8 million and his potential 2025 contract could be one-year at $2.5 million.
Tyron Smith, Jets. Smith is 35 years old, played 55.2% snaps and has been in the league 14 years. His cap hit for 2024 was $6.5 million and his potential 2025 contract could be one-year at 7.5 million.
Alaric Jackson, Chargers. Jackson is 27 years old, played 82% snaps and has been in the league four years. His cap hit for 2024 was $4.9 million and his potential 2025 contract could be three-years at $45 million, an average of $15 million per year.
Veteran Backups:
Jackson Barton, Cardinals, Barton is 30 years old, played 14.3% snaps and has been in the league four years. His cap hit for 2024 was $1.125 million and his potential 2025 contract could be one-year at $1.17 million.
Kevin Beachum. Beachum is 36 years old, played 67.7% snaps and has been in the league thirteen years. His cap hit for 2024 was $2.575 million and his potential 2025 contract could be one-year at $4 million.
Jaylin Moore, 49ers. Moore is 27 years old, played 25.1% snaps and has been in the league four years. his cap hit for 2024 was 950,000 and his potential 2025 contract could be one-year at $1.17 million.
Others:
Chris Hubbard, Giants, Strom Norton, Falcons, Andre Dillard, Packers, Matt Pert, Broncos, Cody Ford, Bengals, Jackson Carmen, Dolphins and Josh Jones, Ravens.
Next, quarterbacks.
