The Detroit Lions Sign Brock Stuard

The Detroit Lions sign 4-year linebacker Grant Stuard to a one year fully guaranteed contract. The former Mr. Irrelevant was originally drafted out of Houston University by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but has played his last two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts as a rotational linebacker, and standout on Special Teams. Grant is coming off a  career year with the Colts in 2024, which was highlighted by a 18 tackle game against the Miami Dolphins. Stuard finished the year with 40 total tackles (4 Tackles for a loss) in 17 games, and boasted a PFF score a hair below 70. His highest rated category being in the area of run defense. He mostly served as a reserve Outside Linebacker in his time in Indianapolis, but has the ability to start in pinch if need be.

He joins an already deep group of linebackers, although the unit got very thin throughout the year due to injuries. It’s very evident the Lions have prioritized depth at this position this off season. They’ve already resigned Derrick Barnes, Ezekiel Turner, and Anthony Pittman. Stuard makes the 4th at the position thus far. Stuard should make an immediate impact on Special Teams. He will likely fill the void left by former Pro-Bowler and Jaylen Reeves-Maybin who missed the majority of last year with a neck injury. Stuart has alrady make of fan of Lion’s Special Teams Coach Dave Fipp who stated, “Number 41’s a hair on fire player, this guys relentless. Stuard has one career touchdown, which he secured on a 18 yard punt block recovery.

Stuard was not only appreciated by coaches. His unique appearance and tenacious playing style made him a popular player amongst the fan base in Indy as well. His infectious energy and fiery approach to the game will ignite the Ford Field crowd when he’s donning the Honolulu Blue and Silver.
