Tanner Bibee Pitches Like an Ace as Cleveland Guardians Beat Cincinnati Reds 3-0

As the regular season approaches, starting pitchers are lengthening their starts to about six innings.

Tanner Bibee gave the Cleveland Guardians six great ones in a 3-0 win over the Cincinnati Reds yesterday in Goodyear, Ariz.

Bibee only gave up one hit and one walk while striking out four. He hasn’t given up an earned run this spring.

If Shane Bieber can return to his usual form after his injury, the Guardians will be dangerous in the second half of the season.

Joey Cantillo, a candidate for another starting spot, pitched two scoreless innings of relief to lower his ERA to 6.17.

Paul Sewald, an insurance policy at closer, pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.

INSTANT OFFENSE

Carlos Santana gave the Guardians a 2-0 lead in the first inning. He doubled to score Steven Kwan and Lane Thomas.

Santana is a notoriously slow starter, as he is hitting .118 this spring.

Austin Hedges blasted his second home run of the spring in the sixth inning to extend Cleveland’s lead to 3-0.

DRESS REHEARSAL

For the first time, almost all of Cleveland’s starting lineup played the entire game. The team is gearing up for Opening Day on March 27 against the Kansas City Royals.

Gabriel Arias started at second base. He went 0-for-3 and is batting .229.

Juan Brito is another candidate for the second-base job. He is only hitting .133, but he has three home runs.

Cleveland will return to Surprise, Ariz., tonight to play the Texas Rangers. Game time is 9:05 Eastern.
