Stars Swing Blockbuster To Land Mikko Rantanen
The Dallas Stars wasted no time making sure they cemented themselves as the winners of the Trade Deadline.
Dallas acquired star forward Mikko Rantanen from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Logan Stankoven, two first-round picks, and two third-round picks.
Upon the agreement, Rantanen agreed to an 8-year $96 million for an AAV of $12 million, which was the ultimate factor in making the deal work.
Rantanen was not willing to sign for $12 million with either Colorado or Carolina, but ultimately, he winds up in Dallas.
This season with both Colorado and Carolina, Rantanen has 27 goals and 70 points in 62 games played.
Adding Rantanen will give the Stars a superstar to add to their top-six forward group for years to come.
In most people’s eyes, the Stars are now one of if not the favorite to win the Stanley Cup, which they already were before.
Losing Stankoven could hurt in the future, as we’ve seen what kind of player he could be when hot.
However, with Rantanen, the Stars are getting an all-star forward, which they hope Stankoven could turn into.
Dallas may not be done, as they still have cap space to add a defenseman in the wake of Miro Heiskanen’s injury.
