Seiya Suzuki Took A Samurai Sword To Batting Practice
The Tokyo Series is just DAYS AWAY for Major League Baseball, where we will see the Chicago Cubs face off against the defending World Series Champions known as the Los Angeles Dodgers. This will be a highly-contested match-up between two stout lineups from the National League, that will take place at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan.
It will be a very entertaining event that will see the likes of Shohei Ohtani, Shōta Imanaga, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Rōki Sasaki, and Seiya Susuki return to their homeland to play the game that they love. And to get ready for the event, the aforementioned Suzuki of the Chicago Cubs recently decided to take a piece of his homeland out to batting practice with him.
Yeah, we think Seiya’s ready for the #TokyoSeries. 😳 pic.twitter.com/IFYUFix6R6

Susuki, for those of you who are unaware, has been a member of the Chicago Cubs since 2022. In his three years with the team, the former Hiroshima Carp has really blossomed into an important part of Craig Counsell’s roster, upping his WAR (Wins Above Replacement) from 1.8 in 2022 to 3.5 in 2024. Not only that; the 30-year old outfielder has also put up a very impressive stat-line, consisting of;
396 H, 55 HR, 193 RBI, 31 SB, .278 BA, .354 OBP
He has been a solid piece of the puzzle for the Northsiders offensively, and apparently…..he knows how to swing a sword too. He was able to slice baseballs with ease, like he was the main character in the popular mobile game ‘Fruit Ninja.‘ He was so precise with his cuts, that even the camera person involved in the video got caught by a stray “half” ball.
But the question that I have though is……what would you do if your teammate walked into batting practice with a damn SAMURAI SWORD? I mean personally……I would probably start polishing the team’s trophy cases IMMEDIATELY. I would call Rob Manfred, or whoever is in charge of the postseason awards for the league, and tell him to get the plaque ready for Seiya’s Offensive Player of the Year award.
Why? Well it’s because with those vibes, this man is BOUND TO have a season to remember. He is BOUND TO bring his game to a whole new level, and elevate to a level that we haven’t seen from him yet.
Seiya’s getting us HYPED for the Tokyo Series, and the season ahead. But in the end, as always…..what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
