Royals Prospect Jac Caglianone Could Debut Quicker than Anticipated

There have been prospects that have been discussed that are guys that will be top tier draft selections. Not to mention, the cream of the crop of talent that can sniff the MLB this season is also top tier. There are plenty of young players to keep your eyes on this season, such as Jasson Dominguez, Roki Sasaki, and even Dylan Crews. One player that could make their debut and find their way onto the roster is Jac Caglianone.

Caglianone Could Come Sooner than Expected

What a gift it was to be a team like the Royals, who were in playoff position and ended up landed a star talent in Jac Caglianone. With the team already having budding stars that have shaped their core, adding this type of talent to the roster is appealing. In fact, his debut for the Royals could be closer than anticipated.

ESPN’s very own Jeff Passan discussed that Caglianone could make his debut as soon as this summer. However, it would not be his natural position. Caglianone would see time in the outfield, and even patrol the corner outfield positions. That would be enormous for the Royals and himself.

Reason for the Shift to the Outfield

When it comes to the roster construction of the Royals, they already have a reliable first baseman. Vinnie Pasquantino was not only a reliable bat, but also a reliable defender. Pasquantino was hitting .262 and with an OPS of .761, matching his output from last season. He hit a career high 19 home runs and was a player that ranked in the 96th percentile in strikeout rate and whiff rate, which is excellent. So, with them having him at the position, the shift to the outfield makes sense. At this point, it’s getting the talent on the field that is ready now and can contribute at the big league level.

Caglianone possesses the necessary arm strength that can allow him to man the corner outfield position. This will be huge for the Royals, but the more important thing is bringing his reliable bat into the lineup.

Caglianone displays raw power and his slugging ability is off the charts. This is a player that excelled for the Florida Gators, having a batting average north of .300 the mash two seasons, as well as slugging above .700. Once drafted, he got a taste of A+ and did well in the small sample size. However, this spring he is popping off for the Royals, like many other prospects have this spring.

Caglianone most recent home run went for a rocket of a shot (444 feet) and had an exit velocity of 114 MPH. An absolute nuke from the Royals prospect and potential star in the making. He has made a name for himself this spring as well. In 11 at-bats, he is hitting .545 and with an OPS of 2.098 and has three home runs and five RBI’s.

There’s a reason why he could legitimately see time this season. The outfield depth for the Royals is MJ Melendez, Kyle Isbel, and Hunter Renfroe. Nothing against those guys, but Caglianone when ready certainly deserves a spot.

He is the real deal and a core of him and Bobby Witt Jr is scary to envision.
