Rooftop Mingle: Ryan Ritter, Rockies Middle Infield Prospect

In this new Rooftop Mingle session, Evan and Skyler sit down with Colorado Rockies 2022 draft pick and middle infield prospect Ryan Ritter. Ritter flashed serious leather with the University of Kentucky and is now on the doorstep of Major League Baseball as he plays shortstop for the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes.

It’s been a quiet journey for Ritter since joining the Rockies organization. He was selected as a shortstop, and scouts praised the glovework but always felt that his offense would need to try and catch up. Surprisingly enough, Ritter has been a quality hitter throughout college and during his minor league career, including posting a 20-20 season and earning MVP honors in his first professional season with Low-A Fresno.

Since then, Ritter has slowly worked his way up, putting up quality seasons at each level, though it hasn’t been easy. Injuries have sometimes hindered him and made him stumble, but they haven’t broken him down. He talks about his approach to hitting and the adjustments he’s been trying to make as well as the efforts in making the transition to second base to increase his versatility and availability for the Rockies.

He also dives into talking about his family, his personal interests, and the reason he wears no. 47.

Ritter is a high-quality prospect who is fighting for a spot with the Rockies, and he’s got the determination and the goods to get it done!
