Game 1: Friday, March 28, 2025 – Rays 3, Rockies 2

The season opener was a tight contest that concluded with a 3-2 walk-off victory for the Rays. Rockies’ starting pitcher Kyle Freeland delivered an impressive performance, tossing six scoreless innings on a relatively low pitch count. Despite his efforts, the offense couldn’t capitalize sufficiently, and the bullpen yielded the decisive run in the ninth inning, allowing a walk-off home run to  Cameron Misner, his first big league homer.

Game 2: Saturday, March 29, 2025 – Rockies 2, Rays 1

In the second game, the Rockies edged out the Rays with a 2-1 win, marking their first victory of the season. Brenton Doyle and Kyle Farmer each contributed an RBI single, providing the necessary offense. Starting pitcher Antonio Senzatela managed to keep the Rays scoreless despite allowing nine hits and two walks over 4 1/3 innings. The defense played a significant part in the victory, bailing Senzatela out multiple times by throwing runners out at the plate. The bullpen held firm, with Luis Peralta earning the win and Seth Halvorsen securing his first save by retiring all four batters he faced.

Game 3: Sunday, March 30, 2025 – Rays 6, Rockies 4

The series finale saw the Rockies fall 6-4 to the Rays. Tampa Bay’s Brandon Lowe hit a two-run homer in the first inning, setting the tone early. Despite a pinch-hit two-run homer by Rockies’ Mickey Moniak late in the game and a 3-for-4 performance from Nick Martini, the Rockies couldn’t overcome a pivotal four-run rally by the Rays in the sixth inning. Junior Caminero’s RBI single initiated the rally, which was aided by a throwing error on a bunt single by Jose Caballero.

Series Overview

The Rockies concluded the series with a 1-2 record. While the starting pitching showed resilience, the offense struggled to provide consistent run support, and defensive lapses and bullpen follies proved costly. As the team moves forward, addressing these issues will be crucial for success in the upcoming games as they head to Philadelphia for a three-game set over four days.
