Red Sox Lock Up Ace in Garrett Crochet
The wait is finally over! The Boston Red Sox have their ace not just for the present but for the future as well. Per Jeff Passan, the Red Sox and Garrett Crochet have an extension in place for the next six years and worth $170 million. He does have an opt out after the 2030 season and the deal does not begin until 2026. After waiting impatiently it seems, the fan base can rest knowing they have their ace for the long haul.
Crochet Extension is Massive
The days where the Red Sox stopped spending money and decided to operate under a budget is a foregone conclusion. After paying a hefty prospect package to land Crochet, all eyes were on the front office to paying him the big ticket contract. Landing the player is one thing and being under team control can do that, but paying him is a totally different ballpark. Well, the front office entered that ballpark and ultimately got the deal done.
The Red Sox are building something special. They have one of the best farm systems in the entire league and also have a roster that is capable of competing for a playoff spot and potentially a World Series. Nothing against what was already in place for the pitching staff, they needed a bonafide ace and a true workhorse at the front of the rotation. They got that with Crochet and truly believe that his 2024 season was no fluke.
This is a pitcher that they covet and a pitcher that they love. Crochet packs a mean velocity and throws pure heat with his fastball. In addition, he is a whiff machine and can get the chase rates going. He is a strikeout machine and his 35.1 K% and had over 200 strikeouts. This is a player in the prime of his career and the Red Sox are going to get the best version of him. He is their stallion and their ace and this is a great deal for the Red Sox overall. Had they waited any longer, got to imagine that price tag rises.
