Oettinger Perfect As Stars Blank Wild To Close Home Stand
It’s always fun to see players rise to the occasion on their bobblehead night, but Jake Oettinger did more than that on Monday night.
Oettinger stopped all 32 shots he saw en route to a shutout, helping the Stars secure a 3-0 win over the Minnesota Wild.
“You can tell when [Oettinger]’s feeling it and dialed in like that. He’s got that swagger,” Dallas coach Pete DeBoer said.
“You can just tell. They looked like they could shoot all night and he wasn’t going to let anything in. When he’s got that feel, that’s obviously a really good feeling on our bench.”
After a scoreless first period, Wyatt Johnston got the scoring started when he tipped home a Thomas Harley shot to make it 1-0.
“It’s trying to find the angle, find the open ice. It’s something we talked about before the face-off, looking for that,” Johnston said.
“[Harley] obviously did a great job of getting to the middle of the ice and opening up some options. For me, it’s just finding that open ice and giving him a target. He hit my blade perfectly.”
Less than a minute later, Matt Duchene fired one home to double the Stars’ lead with a wirster from the left.
One goal was all Jake Oettinger needed but he continued to come up with big save after big save down the stretch.
Mason Marchement put home an empty-net goal to seal the win and secure the 3-0 final score and the two points.
With the shutout win, Oettinger remains undefeated in regulation against the Minnesota Wild, his hometown team.
“I love playing against those guys. People from all over, your hometown, are going to be tuning in. Just fun to play well against those guys.
Guys have always played good for me against them, they help me out. They know how important these games are for me,” said Oettinger, who is from Lakeville, Minnesota. “It takes a lot of good bounces [to get a shutout].
