NFL Owners Table ‘Tush Push’ Talk For Later Date

The Tush-Push. These are three very controversial words in the football community, depending on the team(s) that you root for. On the one hand (if you’re an Eagles fan), you probably love the tush-push. You probably think that the tush-push is the greatest creation in the history of mankind, and that anyone who thinks otherwise is a crybaby ninny.

But on the other hand, there are some teams/fan-bases who believe that it is absolute filth. There are some teams (like the dorks in Green Bay) who reportedly want it to be banned. They consider it to be an “unfair play,” and they believe that it is unsafe for the players involved in it. (Even thought there is no statistical data backing that claim).

It is a play that the league planned to vote on during their annual Coach’s Meeting in Florida this week. But according to multiple reports…

It looks like they have not come to a decision at this time. It looks like the league has pushed the discussion back a month, and will revisit the topic in May of this year. Why was it tabled, you may ask? Well according to Ari Meirov, it looks like they didn’t have the 24-votes that are necessary to ban the play. So instead of going through with said vote, they reportedly will attempt to sway a few more votes in the “no” direction.

This comes just a month after the Green Bay Packers submitted a proposal to have the controversial play banned from the league. Did they do it because they truly believe it is good for the sport? Or did they do it because they’re sad that they can’t stop it/run it as well as the Eagles? I don’t know! All I know is that this seems like something Matt LaFleur and the rest of those cheese-chomping dorks up north would do.

The question that arises though is……should the ‘tush push’ REALLY be banned? Should the league do-away with the play that has become synonymous with Nick Sirianni and the rest of the Philadelphia Eagles organization?

The answer…..absolutely NOT! That is wild claim to make, and something that just SCREAMS “desperation” from the rest of the league. There are really only two reasons why a team would want to get rid of the ‘tush push.’ One; they are mad that they can’t stop it. OR two; they are mad that they can’t run it as well as the Eagles.

That’s IT! These coaches who are against it need to stop making up excuses, like it’s “unsafe” and whatnot. It’s no different than the other plays that happens in a football game. It’s a rough sport, and a player can get hurt at any point of the game. It’s not just because of one play. It’s not just because of one team. So stop acting like the Eagles are going to incapacitate the rest of the NFL by performing this “pumped-up” QB sneak.

It’s just a wild situation, and I hope the coaches/teams who are against the play don’t get the votes that they need. But in the end, as always…..what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
