Ohio State vs. Tennessee College Football Playoff Preview

On Saturday December 21st at 8pm eastern time, the Ohio State Buckeyes host the Tennessee Volunteers in first round of the College Football Playoffs at Ohio Stadium in Columbus Ohio. The 6th ranked Buckeyes are 7.5-point favorite over the 7th ranked Volunteers. The game will be featured and nationally televised on the ABC network. The Buckeyes will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing home loss to Michigan 13-10 on November 30th. Tennessee’s last game was a 36-23 win at Vanderbilt also on November 30th. The big question is Ohio State able to redeem themselves?

Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day did get a vote confidence from Ohio State’s Athletic Director Ross Bjork after the loss to Michigan. But many Ohio State fans want a change since Day lost four years in a row to that team up north. Ryan Day’s job could very well be on the line with the team’s performance in the College Football Playoffs. The winner of this game will advance to the Rose Bowl to play the first ranked Oregon Ducks. But the Buckeyes must get passed Tennessee first.

Ohio State’s high-powered offense will have to wake up from its Michigan slumber. Tennessee does have talent and they did beat Alabama 24-17 on October 19th. This is not an easy opponent for Ohio State despite being favored. One advantage maybe the weather in this game. The weather forecast is expected to be 25 degrees Fahrenheit at kickoff. No snow or any precipitation is being forecasted currently. A southern team coming to Ohio in late December should be an advantage for the home team. But will the Buckeyes be able to take advantage? For head coach Ryan Day’s sake, I hope so. Otherwise, Ohio State could be looking for a new head coach.
