MLB Opening Weekend: National League Takeaways

The 2025 MLB season is underway and the National League is already as exciting as ever.

There are many surprises around the league and many teams that have fallen behind a bit earlier than wanted.

Below, check out some of the Opening Weekend takeaways around the National League.

NL West Shaping Up To Be Fun

The Los Angeles Dodgers are off to the start that we all expected. Dating back to the opening series in Japan, the Dodgers are now 6-0 behind the power of a loaded lineup and strong pitching staff. The Dodgers are expected to win 100+ games and win the division but the San Diego Padres might have something to say about that.

San Diego has given the Dodgers fits in recent years in the postseason. Now, it is shaping up to be an exciting battle within the division. San Diego has not lost either at 5-0.

Atlanta Braves Falling Apart

The Atlanta Braves came into the season still banged up from 2024 injuries but the start is one no one expected. Atlanta moved to 0-5 on the season with a loss on Monday night. To make matters worse, Jurickson Profar was suspended 80 games for violating MLB’s PED policy. Reynaldo Lopez became the latest arm to land on the IL as well. Atlanta has two more games in Los Angeles, which does not make things any easier.

Milwaukee Brewers Pitching Off To Horrific Start

The Milwaukee Brewers pitching is off to a historically bad start. It might be an injured group but the Brewers have allowed 43 runs over the last three games. This includes nine home runs and 20 runs to the New York Yankees on Saturday afternoon. Milwaukee is 0-4 to begin the season and it is because of a complete lack of ability on the mound.

Juan Soto Arrives In Queens

Juan Soto signed a historic contract with the New York Mets in the offseason and arrived for his first weekend in Houston. He has a hit in all four games this season, including his first home run launched into the second deck. The Mets are off to a 2-2 start on the road with two more games in Miami. The Mets have a chance to gain more momentum before their home opener, where Soto is bound to get an incredible ovation.
