Maple Leafs Acquire Brandon Carlo from the Boston Bruins

When Leafs fans all thought it was over, Brad Treliving goes out and gets one of the guys that have tourtured the Leafs in the playoffs, Brandon Carlo from the Boston Bruins.

Carlo is an excellent fit with the Maple Leafs. A defensive defender, a guy who can eat minutes along with Morgan Rielly, and a guy who will have the passion in the postseason. Carlo doesn’t have the points, but that’s not what he will be serviced for. Carlo was one of the defenders that the Leafs had their eyes on, and he seems like the perfect guy for Brad Treliving, and Craig Berube.

Brandon Carlo has 2-years remaining on his current deal, giving the Leafs a bit of control and a sense of safety with this player. Carlo will likely be the defense partner for Morgan Rielly until his contract ends.

Toronto trades forward prospect Fraser Minten and a 2026 1st, as well as Conor Timmins and Connor Dewar to Pittsburgh in what seems to be retention on Carlo’s deal. The retention has not been officially released at this time or which team would be retaining, but per Leafs GM Brad Treliving, there is 15% retained on the remainder of Carlo’s deal.

This really is a deal for Toronto. Carlo is the perfect right-shot defender to have alongside Rielly, and Carlo having years on his deal makes it that much better. Toronto fans already know what Carlo is about, and now we get to see him wreak havoc in the blue and white.

Boston trading within the division surely is a sight to see. First, Brad Marchand to the Panthers, and now the Leafs grabbing Carlo. Absolutely wild scene out of the Atlantic division.
