Manchester City Through To Knockout Round On Final Day Of Champions League
After being out of form for much of the Champions League season thus far, Manchester City can breathe a sigh of relief.
Needing a win today to move into the knockout phase, City took down Club Brugge 3-1 to move through.
Following a pretty solid first half from City, things took a turn for disaster near the end as Burgee struck in stoppage time to take a 1-0 lead into the dressing room.
Needing something to salvage their Champions League season, Mateo Kovačić leveled things at one at 53’.
Less than ten minutes later it was a Club Brugge own goal that put City in front and would end up as the winner putting them through to the knockouts.
Savinho put a cap on things at 77’ striking one home to cap off an impressive performance off the bench for him.
Ending up with a second half that was much better than the first will certainly be a positive moving forward.
However, things will have to get tightened up as it doesn’t get much easier here on out in the UCL.
Next round City will either play Real Madrid or Bayern in a heavy-weight knockout round matchup.
The draw for that round will take place this Friday. If indeed it is Madrid who City will play, they will look to get their revenge from last season’s quarterfinal.
