Logan Allen Silences Baltimore Bats as Cleveland Guardians Win 6-3
Logan Allen worked all spring to get back into the Cleveland Guardians’ starting rotation after getting dropped to the minors last year.
Allen’s comeback story continued last night in Baltimore in a 6-3 win over the Orioles.
He pitched 5 2/3 innings of shutout ball, giving up two hits and two walks while striking out six batters.
Paul Sewald finished the sixth inning. Joey Cantillo and Cade Smith gave up three runs in the seventh and eighth.
Emmanuel Clase recorded his second save by pitching a scoreless ninth. He lowered his ERA to 6.75.
I BELIEVE I CAN (SACRIFICE) FLY
Cleveland used the sacrifice fly as its main offense weapon. Jose Ramirez started the party in the third, scoring Bo Naylor.
Angel Martinez tripled in the fifth inning and scored on a sac fly by Naylor. Martinez is batting .571 since being called up from Columbus.
Later in the inning, Steven Kwan bashed a two-run homer to right field to give Cleveland a 4-0 lead.
The Guardians scored two more in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Brayan Rocchio and an RBI single by Kwan.
Cleveland dropped Baltimore starter Charlie Morton’s record to 0-4 with an 8.84 ERA.
BATTLING BIRDS
Cedric Mullins put the Orioles on the board in the seventh with a solo homer off Cantillo.
Baltimore scored twice off Cade Smith in the eighth. Ryan Mountcastle hit an RBI double and scored on a single by Gary Sanchez.
The series will continue tonight as Gavin Williams (1-0) starts for the Guardians against Dean Kremer (1-2). First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
