Langford’s Late Blast Lifts Rangers Past Rays
If you wanted to name all the impressive things that Wyatt Langford did in his rookie season, you’d be going at it for quite a minute.
Certainly, one of those things would be his clutch hitting. Langford ripped three walk-off hits in 2024 with countless huge performances sprinkled in between.
On Saturday night, Langford showed that he wouldn’t be leaving those huge moments in his rookie season.
Langford’s go-ahead two-run home run in the 7th inning lifted the Rangers past the Rays by a score of 6-4.
The blast had an exit velocity of 110.7 MPH, marking the hardest hit home run in Langford’s career.
Adding the Rangers’ final two runs of the night via a home run was a fitting way for Langford to put himself into the theme of the game.
Texas scored all six of their runs via the long dall and recorded just four hits as a team in the entire game.
Marcus Semien got the scoring started in the bottom of the first as he connected on his 31st career leadoff home run.
Later that frame, with two runners on, Jake Burger launched his second home run of the season to make it 4-0 Texas.
Jacob deGrom got the start for the Rangers and surrendered a pair of home runs of his own to account for three of the Rays’ four runs.
deGrom finished the night with a final line of 5 IP 8H 4 ER 0BB and 3K in his longest outing since April of 2023.
Once again, it was the back end of the Rangers bullpen that locked this one down as Jacob Webb, Robert Garcia, Chris Martin, and Luke Jackson combined to pitch 3.1 scoreless innings.
Jackson recorded his fifth save of the season and has still yet to allow a run since his outing on Opening Day.
Texas will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they go for the series sweep of the Rays at 1:35 PM from Globe Life Field.
