I Feel Good: Tanner Bibee Recovers to Lead Cleveland Guardians to Victory
Tanner Bibee’s delayed Opening Day start was worth the wait.
Bibee delivered 5 2/3 innings of shutout ball as the Cleveland Guardians won the opening series with a 6-2 win over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday.
The Guardians ace, who missed Thursday’s game due to food poisoning, gave up two hits and two walks while striking out two.
Tim Herrin finished the sixth. Joey Cantillo gave up a pair of unearned runs in the eighth, although one was a based-loaded walk.
Hunter Gaddis extinguished the blaze in the eighth, and Emmanuel Clase pitched a scoreless ninth.
OFFENSIVE FIREPOWER
Even without Jose Ramirez, the Guardians delivered consistent offense throughout the game. Ramirez exited Saturday’s loss to KC with a sprained wrist.
Gabriel Arias, starting at third for Ramirez, opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the third inning to score Carlos Santana.
In the fifth, Kyle Manzardo blasted his second home run of the season to score Steven Kwan, giving Cleveland a 3-0 lead.
Arias went deep in the sixth, and the Guardians added an RBI groundout by Kwan to increase the lead to 5-0.
Daniel Schneemann finished the scoring with a solo homer in the eighth off Royals reliever John Schreiber.
Royals starter Michael Wacha took the loss after lasting just four innings.
Cleveland will begin a three-game series in San Diego tonight. Luis Ortiz will make his first start for the Guardians against Kyle Hart for the Padres.
