How The Red Hot Rockets Keep Rolling
Just two weeks ago, the Houston Rockets walked off the court in Indiana with a 115-102 loss marking their 6th losing effort in 8 games.
After being up as high as second place in the West during the early parts of the season, the Rockets had seen themselves slip to 5th with the red-hot Golden State Warriors right on their tail.
Little did they know that their final game of a losing road trip in New Orleans would be the start of their turnaround.
Houston took down New Orleans on both ends of a home and home before beating Orlando, Phoenix, Dallas, and Chicago to mark six straight wins.
The streak saw the Rockets retake their second spot in the Western Confrence standings that currently has the 2-5 seeds separated by just one game.
On Monday night, the Rockets were getting torched by the then 23-44 Phillidelphia 76ers led by a red hot Quentin Grimes who would finish the night with 46 points.
After allowing a season high 82 points in the first half, the Rockets trailed 82-57 at the intermission.
Battling back, the Rockets leveled the game at even had the lead during parts of the second hald but trailed 131-129 with 5 seconds left.
Jabari Smith Jr was at the line with one free throw remaining that he needed to miss on purpose.
That is exactly what he did and Alperen Sengun was in the right place at the right time to tip it in and tie the game.
In overtime, Jalen Green and Smith Jr. continued their takeover finishing with 30 points each as the Rockets won the OT frame 13-6 and the game 144-137.
Houston staged their largest comeback in franchise history proving that when you’re hot, you’re hot.
The Rockets winning streak is now at seven games with five of their next six games coming against teams with losing records.
However, things are far from over as the Rockets one game lead for the second seed will be put to the test across the NBA’s final month.
