Granlund’s OT Winner Lifts Stars Past Ducks
Not many teams in the NHL are better than the Dallas Stars on home ice. Entering play on Wednesday, Dallas had won their last seven home contest.
Mikael Granlund was going to make sure that seven turned into eight when the Anaheim Ducks came to town last night.
Granlund pounced on a rebound in the slot and buried it home via a backhand with just over two minutes left in overtime.
āIt was big,ā Granlund said. āThere was a lot of penalties in the first two periods. They scored a few goals off of those and (we) couldnāt get into the rhythm.
We battled back in the third and got the two points we needed. Thereās no easy game in this league. Bottom line, we got the win and weāre going to try to get better once we move forward here.ā
Wyatt Johnston tipped home a power-play goal at 11:42 of the first period to get the scoring started.
That lead would last through the first period but not much longer after that as Nikita Nesterenko tied things at 2:48 of the second period on a deflection in front of the net.
Granlund scored what would be the first of his two goals on the night at 4:25 when he put one home in a tight window off Lukas Dostalās blocker.
The next two goals of the game belonged to Leo Carlsson who tied things with a power play goal at 13:03 in the second and then again via a controversial penalty shot at 19:20 to give the Ducks a 3-2 lead.
In the 3rd, Thomas Harley tied the game with yet another huge goal at 4:37 to set things up for Granlundās OT winner.
āImportant win. Theyāre not all pretty, especially over a long season, so we found a way,ā Stars coach Pete DeBoer said.
āWe did some good things. I thought the first half of that game we could have had four or five goals. Missed some really good looks, their goalie made some saves, they hung around.
