FLASHBACK: Nazr Mohammed Drops LeBron In The Playoffs!

This may be a crazy thing to say…but former NBA C Nazr Mohammed is a hero in Chicago. He is someone who is (or should be) praised by Bulls fans, and the city as a whole. Even though he only played three seasons with the team…he provided us with one of the greatest moments in basketball history during the 2013 Eastern Conference Semi-Finals.

What is that moment, you may ask? Well…

Mohammed, for those of you who are unaware, was the back-up center for the Chicago Bulls from 2012-2014. During his time with the organization, he ended up posting a stat-line consisting of;

166 G, 8.3 MPG, 1.9 PPG, 2.5 RPG, 0.3 APG, .396 FG%

He was, for lack of a better term……the “muscle” of the team. He was the guy who came in for a spell every now and again, to help give the starters a rest. He was that lovable ‘hard hat and lunch pail’ type of player coming off the bench who, in that moment, made LeBron James look like the biggest PEASANT in the entire world.

That’s right, basketball fans; the self-proclaimed “King” looked like an absolute FRAUD. Nazr made the second-best player on the Heat that year look softer than Charmin. He made ‘LeDork’ look like a CHILD, as he flew ten feet across the court. It was something that had the United Center on it’s FEET, and the city of Chicago believing that Nazr was ACTUALLY Superman!

I mean COME ON; that’s the only way to explain how far LeBron flew after that shove, right? To have the ability to send a 6’9,” 250 lb human ACROSS THE COURT with a single push? It would take a super-human feat of strength. It would take an other-worldly being to legitimately pull something like that off, since LeBron wouldn’t be caught DEAD flopping in a game? Right?

Sadly though…..Superman’s efforts didn’t lead to a win for the Bulls. In the end, Tom Thibodeau’s squad ended up losing Game 3 104-94, while also losing the series four games to one. It was a sad moment that I, and many other Chicagoans, did NOT want to see happen. But when you have to deal with a ‘superteam’ like Miami…..you’re going to have a rough time.

BUT, in the end….I think it’s safe to say that people aren’t remembering the Heat’s run to the Finals from that year, and how LeBron basically had to be carried to a championship. NO! They remember the moment when Nazr Mohammed knocked the “King” off his throne, and (basically) told him that he is his daddy.

It was a moment that will live on in the minds of Chicagoans for GENERATIONS, and it is something that should be included in EVERY playoff video package for the rest of time. I’m jealous that Nazr got to be the one to do it…..but I’m proud of him, nonetheless.

In the end though, as always…..what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop trying to make sense of this world.
