Evan Carter Believes He Can Be Every Day Center Fielder In 2025
Much like most of the Rangers roster, the 2023 version of Evan Carter didnāt show up last season.
Carter played just 45 games last season and slashed just .188/.272/.361 with 5 home runs and 15 RBI.
āFrom middle to late April on, it was just me and Donnie [Ecker] and Tim [Hyers] every single day in the cage saying āHereās video from 23ā why canāt we do this?
āMy body wonāt let me do thatā Carter would reply before he would eventually miss the rest of the season with back issues.
Now coming into 2025, Carterās back injury is in the past and he believes that he can be an everyday center fielder on a team that is looking to make it back to the postseason.
āThatās where I love to play and thatās where I know Iām at my best, thatās where Iāve always played, thatās where Iām most comfortable but at the end of the day, I pride myself in being able to play all three [outfield positions].
āWherever I fit in, at the end of the day youāve gotta hit so if Iām hitting, Iāll fit in somewhereā Carter finished.
Ultimately, we know that Carter can hit right-handed pitchers but itās lefties that his well-documented struggles come from.
However, Carter himself doesnāt seem to be too concerned.
āThe starts that I got last year, the first one was against Justin Steele and then we faced [Tarik] Skubal, that was kinda my sample size last year and the rest I felt terrible so I feel like what exactly am I supposed to do about thatā.
āAt the end of the day, Iām confident and I know everybody elseās stats say a certain thing you know, it is what it is, I think that this is a great time to get better and Iām not gonna sit here and tell you Iām just as good at hitting lefties as I am righties because obviously Iām not but Itās a goal of mine and Iām a hard worker and at the end of the day, Iām gonna figure it outā.
As for 2025, it will be interesting to see what the Rangers do as far as splitting time between Carter and Leody Taveras in center field.
However, if Carter can bounce back to his 2023 form and figure out the struggles against lefties, he will be a very good center fielder for the Rangers for a long time.
