Texans Land Super Bowl Champ Gardner-Johnson From Eagles

The Houston Texans have made another move to fortify their already strong defense heading into 2025.

On Tuesday morning, the Texans reportedly acquired safety CJ Gardner-Johnson from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for left guard Kenyon Green.

Houston will also send a 2025 5th round pick and get back a 2026 sixth rounder in a pick swap portion of the deal.

Last season, while helping the Eagles win the Super Bowl, Gardner-Johnson had 6 interceptions and 59 tackles in 16 games.

Gardner-Johnson has accumulated 18 interceptions with Philly, New Orleans, and Detriot throughout his six-year career.

When the 2025 season begins, Gardner-Johnson will slide in next to standout fourth-year safety Jalen Pitre and breakout rookie Calen Bullock to create one of the best safety rooms in the league.

This comes after the Texans lost safety Eric Murray to the Jacksonville Jaguars on a three-year, $22.5 million deal in free agency.

As for Green, despite starting 23 games in his career for the Texans, things ended on a sour note as the former first-round pick was benched last season.

Despite immense struggles last season, the Texans have now lost three offensive linemen as Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil was traded to Washington and Shaq Mason was released.

After filling holes at safety and wide receiver this offseason, Houston will now have to turn its attention to protecting CJ Sround, something they struggled with last season.
