Elimination Chamber Flashback: The Edge of Glory (2009)
Edge lived up to his nickname as “The Ultimate Opportunist” by competing in both Elimination Chamber matches at No Way Out 2009
The show began with the top Smackdown stars competing for the WWE Championship held by Edge (now known as Cope in AEW).
Edge began the match against Jeff Hardy, who pinned him in less than three minutes with a small package.
Whoa! Just like that, the WWE title was up for grabs among five challengers.
The next entrants were Vladimir Kozlov, The Big Show, Triple H, and The Undertaker. Taker pinned Kozlov after a powerbomb.
Big Show was eliminated after a superplex by Taker, a Pedigree by Triple H, and a Swanton Bomb off the Chamber pod by Hardy.
Undertaker pinned Hardy after a Tombstone piledriver, but Triple H hit a pair of Pedigrees to pin Taker.
HHH won his eighth WWE championship, which was his 13th overall World title. John Cena and Ric Flair share the current record with 16 championships.
LET’S GET RAW
Kofi Kingston appeared first for the Raw Elimination Chamber match for Cena’s World championship.
Suddenly, Edge attacked Kingston and locked himself in a pod, forcing his way into the match.
Rey Mysterio started the match against Chris Jericho. Kane was up next, but Rey Jr. pinned him after a dive off a pod.
Mike Knox emerged next, but Jericho put him away with a Codebreaker. Edge and Cena were the final two participants.
Everyone hit their finishers on Cena, knocking him out and ensuring another new champion.
Mysterio pinned Jericho, but Edge wiped him out with a spear to win the World title. So, Edge quickly regained his status as champion.
WRESTLEMANIA AFTERMATH
Triple H retained the WWE title at WrestleMania 25 by defeating Royal Rumble winner Randy Orton.
Edge defended the World title in a Triple Threat match against Cena and Big Show, with Cena regaining the belt.
What about Kofi Kingston? He had to wait 10 years to reach the top of the mountain, winning the WWE title from Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 35.
