Eagles DC Vic Fangio Is Such A ‘Football Guy’

It has been about two and a half weeks since the Philadelphia Eagles DEMOLISHED the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, and since then..Philly’s been on a TEAR across the sports-media world. Whether it’s the Super Bowl Parade that traveled down the streets of Philadelphia, or the time when Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, and the Eagles’ O-Line were on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon…

This team has been LOVING the limelight that has come from winning the biggest championship in the world. But out of the entire team, there is one man who (reportedly) was still in the “football mind frame” after the big win. There is one member of the coaching staff who is such a BIG ‘Football Guy,’ to the point where he (reportedly) needed to have a talk with his players about their performance that Sunday.

That man…is Vic Fangio.

Vic Fangio, for those of you who are unaware, is one of the most well-respected defensive coordinators in the game today. He has been in this league for almost 38 years, heading the defense for teams like the Panthers, Colts, Texans, 49ers, Bears, Dolphins, and now the Eagles. Hell; he even had a brief stint as the Head Coach of the Broncos as well, where he finished with a record of 19-30 over a three year span.

He’s an icon, and someone who ANY TEAM would love to have leading their defense. So to see that he still cares about the game, even after the biggest win of his career…just shows how big of a ‘Football Guy’ he truly is. It just shows that he is a perfectionist, and that the game never stops for him. It’s a moment that you wouldn’t expect from anyone else but Vic, and to be honest…I absolutely love it!

I love it! There is just something about a hard-nosed ‘Football Guy,’ that really brings a bit of nostalgia back to the game. Actually, scratch that; it brings a bit of nostalgia back to sports in general. Nowadays with athletes making millions upon millions of dollars to play a sport, the thought of a coach treating them like they’re back in high school makes it feel like a real “sport” again. If that makes sense?

Obviously this is supposed to be a “fun” story to chuckle at, for some folks. But for me; to see a coach like this who just LOVES the game so much, that he will LITERALLY have a meeting about how his defense played bad during a blowout? It is one of the coolest things in the world!

It’s a great story for the game of football. But in the end, as always…what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
