Eagles 2024 Season Player Grades: Tight Ends

As we continue grading the Eagles’ 2024 season, it’s time to break down the tight end group. Injuries played a major role, but some young players had opportunities to shine.

Dallas Goedert

The unfortunate story of Dallas Goedert continued this season, as injuries once again kept him off the field for stretches. He appeared in 10 games, recording 42 catches for 496 yards and 2 touchdowns. While his receiving numbers weren’t eye-popping, his biggest contribution came in the run game—when Goedert was on the field, the Eagles were a much better rushing team.

If Goedert can stay healthy, he’s one of the best tight ends in the league. His presence was crucial to the Eagles’ success in the playoffs. The Eagles wouldn’t be the team they were at the end of the season if it weren’t for him. Think about it—if he doesn’t have that huge catch-and-run against the Saints, the Eagles would have gone into the bye at 1-3, and who knows what changes might have followed?

Grade: B

Grant Calcaterra

Calcaterra stepped up when Goedert was out, finishing the season with 24 catches for 298 yards and a touchdown. He flashed plenty of potential as a receiving threat, but his blocking remains a work in progress.

While he improved as the season went on, there were too many plays where a run was blown up because Calcaterra missed his block. If he can become more reliable as a blocker, he has a chance to carve out a bigger role in this offense.

Grade: B-

E.J. Jenkins

I thought Jenkins showed enough in the preseason to earn a spot on the 53-man roster, but he was waived and signed to the practice squad instead. He eventually appeared in 8 games, catching 1 pass for 7 yards—and it just so happened to be a touchdown.

For an undrafted free agent, that’s a solid start. He’s currently shooting 100% from the field—maybe his next catch will also be for a touchdown.

Note: I know he isn’t a rookie.

Grade: B+ (For a UDFA scoring a TD)

C.J. Uzomah

Uzomah didn’t record any stats, serving primarily as a blocking tight end. He did his job well in that role, but his season was cut short when he landed on injured reserve and never returned.

Grade: Incomplete
