Eagles 2024 Season Player Grades: Quarterbacks
The NFL season is over, and as sad as that may be, the offseason can still be fun. To kick things off, I’m starting a series where we’ll grade every player on the 53-man roster (plus some notable others) as well as the coaches. And what better place to start than with the quarterback position?
Jalen Hurts
Statistically, you could argue that Hurts didn’t have a great season, but if you actually watched the games, you’d see that he did whatever it took to win. He finished the regular season completing 248 of 361 passes (68.7%) for 2,903 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions, adding 630 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns.
Hurts completely transformed his play style midseason. In his first four games, he had a turnover in each one. After the bye week, he threw just one interception the rest of the regular season. Despite constant criticism about his numbers and national media questioning if he was even a legitimate NFL starter, all he did was win.
In the playoffs, he looked like a top-three quarterback. Hurts accounted for 10 total touchdowns and just one turnover, capping it off with a Super Bowl win and Super Bowl MVP honors. If he can keep this momentum going, he’ll silence any remaining doubters. At this point, Hurts might already be the best quarterback in Eagles history—and he’s just getting started.
Grade: A-
Kenny Pickett
Pickett didn’t make the best first impression on Eagles fans. His first action of the season came against the Commanders when Jalen Hurts was ruled out with a concussion. He went 14-of-24 for 143 yards, a touchdown, and an interception, but he never looked comfortable. At times, he resembled a quarterback who had never played an NFL game.
Still, he had a chance to deliver a win, putting a perfect pass into DeVonta Smith’s hands to seal the game—only for Smith to drop it. The following week, with a full week of practice, Pickett got the start against Dallas. Battling a rib injury, he had a solid showing, completing 10 of 15 passes for 143 yards (again) and a touchdown, while also scoring on a tush push. Unfortunately, he left the game due to injury and was replaced by Tanner McKee.
Pickett’s future with the Eagles is uncertain, and it’ll be interesting to see what happens with him this offseason.
Grade: C
Tanner McKee
McKee only needed a game and a half to get Eagles fans excited. It started in the Dallas game when he went 3-of-4 for 54 yards and two touchdowns in relief of Pickett.
With Pickett injured leading up to Week 18, McKee got the start—and the rest is history. He looked sharp and in command of the offense, finishing 27-of-41 for 269 yards and two touchdowns.
McKee is the complete opposite of Jalen Hurts—he’s tall, not very mobile, but extremely accurate. Depending on what the Eagles do with Pickett, McKee could be QB2 next year.
Grade: A+ (Not many QB3s in the league are this good.)
