The Duke Blue Devils learned where they will be seeded in the 2025 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament and number next to their name is a small one: 1. The NCAA Tournament Selection Show took place Sunday night, and Duke was placed as a 1 seed in the East Region.

It’s the 15th time that Duke has been a 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, but it’s the first time under head coach Jon Scheyer. Duke is 54-10 (.844) all-time as a 1 seed. They will play their first round game against the winner of the First Four game between American and Mount St. Mary’s at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh on Friday afternoon, with tipoff set for approximately 2:50pm ET on CBS.

Duke’s game in Raleigh will be the 41st NCAA Tournament game they’ve played in the state of North Carolina. The winner of Friday’s game will advance to play the winner of 8-seed Mississippi State against 9-seed Baylor. Baylor features graduate transfer guard Jeremy Roach, who played his first four seasons at Duke.

Duke is in the East Regional for the 20th time, and the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 games will take place at the Prudential Center in Newark. Duke hopes to advance out of the first weekend to Newark in the hopes of heading back to the Final Four with the goal of cutting down the nets as national champions. The Blue Devils have the best record in the country at 31-3, winning the ACC regular season title outright as well as cutting down the nets as the ACC Tournament champions.

Joining Duke in the East Region is 2-seed Alabama out of the SEC, 3-seed Wisconsin from the Big Ten, and 4-seed Arizona from the Big 12, who Duke beat on the road back in November. The rest of the NCAA Tournament bracket sets up a wide open tournament where it feels like several teams have a strong chance of making it to the Final Four in San Antonio. Duke’s odds are just as good as any of them.
