Deebo Samuel Is Heading To Washington

Saturday Night Trades. These are, WITHOUT QUESTION, some of the best deals that a professional sports team can make. The thought of a major deal basically BLOWING UP the landscape of a league, while fans are busy enjoying their time off with friends and family, is one of the coolest feelings in the entire world.

They are the absolute BEST! In my opinion, they hold SIGNIFICANTLY more power than if they were to happen during the week. The thought of being able to turn an entire weekend ON IT’S HEAD with a single tweet, is a special power to hold. And that’s EXACTLY what NFL Insider Ian Rapoport did this past Saturday, when he dropped this BOMBSHELL on the world.

Deebo Samuel, for those of you who have been living under a rock, has been a member of the San Francisco 49ers since the 2019 season. In his six years with the organization, the former South Carolina Gamecock has compiled a stat-line consisting of;

81 Games, 334 Rec, 4792 Rec Yards (1143 Rush), 22 Rec TD (20 Rush)

He became one of the most DYNAMIC players in the league during his time with the red and gold, dominating the game both as a running back AND a wideout. But now, after YEARS of trade requests and ‘brouhaha,’ the 29-year old Swiss-army knife’s cries for a “change of scenery” have FINALLY been answered. He is officially onto greener pastures, in the form of the Washington Commanders, who are just coming off of their first NFC Championship appearance since 1991.

This was a MONUMENTAL move for Dan Quinn’s squad, who didn’t really have a #2 receiver all of last season. Sure, the 35-year old Zach Ertz did turn back the clock a little bit, posting 654 yards on the season (2nd on the team). But with such a big jump between ‘Scary Terry’ (82 Rec, 1096 Yds) and Olamide Zaccheaus (45 Rec, 506 Yds), this team was in NEED of an upgrade.

But the question that’s on everyone’s mind is…….can Deebo Samuel be that “upgrade?” Will we see a resurgence from the All-Pro, and a return to a level that he hasn’t been at in the past couple of years? Can he find that spark again?

Personally……I certainly think he can. With a brilliant mind like Kliff Kingsbury running the offense, and a young stud quarterback like Jayden Daniels slinging the football his way…..I think we will see Deebo make a BIG 180 come 2025. Will he be at the same level he was at in 2021? No! But I think he will be worthy of a pick-up in Fantasy Football, and someone folks will need to look out for next season.

Washington should be a fun team to watch in the coming months. But in the end, as always, what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
