Cleveland Guardians Lose to Josh Naylor-Less Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3

The Cleveland Guardians didn’t see Josh Naylor on the field in Monday’s 4-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Cleveland turned heads by trading Naylor and his 108 to the Snakes in the off-season.

WHO’S ON SECOND?

Angel Martinez started at second base for the Guardians in that hotly contested positional battle.

But another candidate, Gabriel Arias, blasted a solo homer to give Cleveland a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Arias was playing third base yesterday.

Kyle Manzardo is another young Cleveland player looking to take a big step forward in 2025.

The designated hitter smacked a two-run homer in the fourth inning to give Cleveland a 3-0 lead.

MOUND MASTERY

Joey Cantillo was Cleveland’s starting pitcher, and he made a great bid for a spot in the rotation.

Cantillo pitched two scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out three.

Slade Cecconi, a longshot for the rotation, pitched the next two innings. He came to Cleveland in the Josh Naylor trade.

Cecconi gave up two hits and a run. He walked one and struck out two.

Andrew Walters had a rough time, giving up Arizona’s other three runs as the Diamondbacks rallied to victory.

Cleveland’s minor-leaguers played in the second half of the game and failed to muster a hit in the final 4 1/3 innings.

The Guardians will host the Texas Rangers in Goodyear, Ariz., today at 3:05 Eastern time.
