Cleveland Guardians Crush Los Angeles Angels 14-2 in Spring Training Game
If only the Cleveland Browns could score like this.
The Guardians walloped the Los Angeles Angels 14-2 in a Cactus League game on Sunday afternoon.
Ben Lively started for Cleveland, giving up five hits and a run in two innings.
Koby Allard was impressive on the mound, striking out four in his two innings of work.
Doug Nikhazy, who is competing for a roster spot, also pitched two shutout innings.
OFFENSIVE ONSLAUGHT
Meanwhile, the Guardians provided more than enough offensive firepower.
Cleveland took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by Tyler Freeman and a run-scoring single by Bo Naylor.
The Guardians tacked on four more in the third inning, highlighted by Steven Kwan’s solo home run to right-center field.
BRING ON THE YOUNGSTERS
Cleveland’s young prospects did just as well at the plate as their more famous counterparts.
Center fielder Joe Lampe and first baseman C.J. Kayfus hit back-to-back homers as Cleveland increased its lead to 9-1 in the fifth inning.
The Guardians erupted for five more runs in the eighth inning to put the game way out of reach.
This was partially due to the Angels’ inability to throw strikes. Designated hitter Jacob Cozart, second baseman Travis Bazzana, and catcher John Ingle drew bases-loaded walks.
The Guardians will travel to Scottsdale, Ariz., today to play the Arizona Diamondbacks at 3:10 p.m. Eastern time.
