Chase Dollander Secures First Win is His MLB Debut

It is always a dream come true getting your call to the show. Chase Dollander got that luxury on Friday and was told he would make his debut Sunday against the Athletics. The Rockies rotation has been quite good to start the season and now adding Dollander is huge. He was a machine in Triple A last season with a 2.25 ERA and was mowing down the batters in Spring Training. He had an awesome debut and is worth showcasing in case anyone missed this outing.

Dollander Had a Nice Day on the Mound

It isn’t easy pitching as a rookie in the big leagues and also against an Athletics team that has plenty of bats that can do some damage. The Athletics did damage early on, seeing Tyler Soderstrom hit a two run home run, which was the first of two in this outing. The Rockies would respond with a stellar inning of their own thanks to Brenton Doyle. But the Rockies offense prevailed and so did Dollander and the Rockies won the game and Dollander got his first MLB victory. Was it all pretty? Not necessarily, but Dollander did plenty of good things under the hood.

Dollander pitched five innings, enough to allow him to get a victory. He threw 79 pitches and 49 for strikes, good for a nice 62% strike rate. Not bad for your first outing in the big leagues. Dollander did allow seven hits and did give up two home runs, but that’s Coors Field for you.

Aside from the deep ball, he didn’t get many other scoring runs against him. Also, he punched out six batters and walked one batter. His first MLB strikeout was 97 right down the middle, blowing by the batter. It was an efficient day for his debut.

Dollander had the game high in the swing and miss column with 10. He relied quite heavily on his fastball, throwing it 43% of the time. He managed to mix in his cutter 27% and his curveball 19%. He saw the most whiffs on his fastball with four, but his curveball had the best whiff percentage with 38%.

The velocity topped out at 99.8 MPH, which is electric. The former Tennessee standout is going to be a gem to watch for the 2025 season.
