Cavs hold off Spurs, 114-113, Magic Number is now 1
On Friday April 4th at 8 pm eastern time, the 61-15 Cleveland Cavaliers traveled to San Antonio Texas to play the 32-44 San Antonio Spurs at the Frost Bank Center. The Cavaliers last game was a 124-105 win at home over the New York Knicks last Wednesday. The Spurs last game was a 113-106 win on the road against the Denver Nuggets last Wednesday as well. Out for the Cavaliers were Ty Jerome and Dean Wade. Out for the Spurs were Victor Wembanyama, De’Aaron Fox, and Jeremy Sochan. The Cavaliers magic number is two to clinch the Eastern Conference top seed in the playoffs. They are trying to lower it while winning their sixty second game of the season.
In the first quarter the Cavaliers dominated the Spurs and led after one quarter of play 38-28. In the second quarter the Cavaliers added to their lead and led at halftime 67-50. In the third quarter the Spurs cut into the Cavaliers lead. And after three quarters of play the Cavaliers still led the Spurs 91-82. In the fourth and final quarter the Spurs made it a close game. But the Cavaliers held on to win their sixty second game of the season 114-113. With the Boston Celtics winning over the Phoenix Suns the Cleveland Cavaliers magic number is now down to one.
The Cavaliers’ leading scorer was Donovan Mitchell with 26 points in 34 minutes. Evan Mobley earned a double-double with 25 points and 12 rebounds in 37 minutes of play. Up next for the 62-15 Cleveland Cavaliers is hosting the 37-40 Sacramento Kings on Sunday April 6th at 6 pm eastern time, at the Rocket Arena in downtown Cleveland Ohio. With the magic number down to one and this Cavaliers team still having a bad taste in their mouth over what happened in California the last time they played the Kings. It will be a good night to clinch the Eastern Conference top playoff spot.
